I've noticed many girls are very confused on how to define themselves, so they either pick option 'A' look to others to give them a definition or option 'B' find one by comparing themselves to another person. The result is complete destruction to their self esteem. The fatal flaw with option 'A' is when other people tell you that your hair is ugly or some other unnecessary insult we as humans take it as fact, because why would a stranger lie to us? They don't care to spare our feelings. So when our friends tell us that our hair is adorable two minutes later, the opposite effect takes place. We discount their necessary compliment as a lie because they clearly have the intention of protecting our emotions. Which results in the daunting truth that are hair is indeed ugly. The problem with option 'B' is when we compare ourselves to others we compare our ugly snapchat that only went to our most trusted friend, to their Photoshoped selfie that somehow reached two thousand likes on Instagram even though they only have six hundred followers. Thus resulting in the reality that we are an ugly mess and they woke up looking like a supermodel (#flawless).
The thing is other peoples opinions of you are just that, OPINIONS, they are not the final say of whether your hair is cute or not or anything else for that matter. That person probably does think your hair is ugly because it's not in their taste. What really matters is that you think it's adorable and if you like it then who cares what some stranger thinks of it or even what your friend thinks of it. We also need to remember that comparison is a vicious attack upon ourselves. We are always comparing our blooper reel to their highlights and of course our purposeful double chin can't reach to the standard of their polished contour, and it's completely ridiculous that we would even think to compare the two. At the end of the day what we look like doesn't even define us, so why does it matter?
When we are defining the word grass we don't compare it to the sky to find the right words, just the same as we don't ask someone else if they think grass is pretty to include in the definition, in fact we don't even mention whether it is appealing or not, so why do we do all of these things when define ourselves? We need to start defining ourselves as the things that we are, not the things that someone else is or says we are. When defining yourself don't include yours or others opinions on your appearance. Don't include a definition of anyone else. Instead define all of the things that YOU are. Every time you become something new like a wife, a graduate, or a homeowner etc. you should add it to the list. Add every time you do something new as well, because these things are truly what defines who you are.
Through being a beauty blogger I have learned, other peoples opinions of you are, is not who you are. You are whoever and whatever you wish to be. When you decide to be something new or to try something new while ignoring strangers input that is when your definition grows immensely. Every lime we redefine ourselves, our definition becomes something more. I have found when trying to find my definition on my own I find a new piece of me that I never knew existed. On your journey to find your definition you will find a self awareness that will give you confidence and happiness like never before. And if you don't like the definition you find you can always redefine it, because you have the power to be anything you wish to be, so go redefine yourself, because someone out there has to be all of the things you want to be. It might as well be you.
